LAWN MOWER RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

Driver regulations and Safety:

  1. Must be 16 years of age (NO EXCEPTIONS!!)
  2. DOT approved helmets and eye protection must be worn.
  3. Long pants and shirts must be worn during competition.
  4. Must attend drivers meeting prior to race event.
  5. May not be pregnant, have back problems, or other medical conditions which hinder racing ability!!

Mower regulations:

  1. Must have working brakes at ALL times.
  2. Kill switch must be a tether cord that kills the ignition or a gas pedal/hand throttle that stops the mower if the driver falls off the mower. THIS WILL BE ENFORCED!!                                                                                                                                         
  3. Brakes must work and may be modified or replaced with after market parts.
  4. Throttle must be spring return to a neutral position and must go IDLE when released!!
  5. Throttle must be foot feed or steering wheel mounted hand throttle.
  6. Mower may not have any sharp edges that endanger other riders.
  7. All belts and chains must be enclosed unless underneath the mower itself.
  8. No leaking gas tanks.
  9. No nitrous oxide.
  10. No alcohol motors, regular GAS ONLY!!
  11. No refund of entry money for violation of any rule.
  12. All mowers will be inspected. Which means the mower is approved for participation in this event and shall not be construed in any way to mean the vehicle is mechanically sound. Be it further declared that the Putnam County Agricultural Society shall not be liable or responsible for any mechanical failure, losses, injury, or death resulting from the same.

 Lawn mower specifications:

  1. We race lawn mowers NOT GO-CARTS!! Must be a factory lawn tractor or riding mower.
  2. NO V-Twin engines!!
  3. You may remove springs from under the seat
  4. Front axle must  be stock
  5. No Tubular frames or hand made frames.
  6. Frame may be reinforced.
  7. Replacement cosmetic parts may be fabricated if desired.
  8. Try to retain mower appearance.
  9. The mower decks may be retained or removed.
  10. Cutting apparatus must be removed.
  11. Bumpers are recommended. Will be 13” to center in height. NO sharp edges.

      Front Bumper Length: NO WIDER THEN WIDTH OF HOOD

      Rear Bumper Length: Must be at least 1” inside of rear tires width .

  1. Gear ratio may be changed. Done by changing drive belts/pulleys
  2. NO CHAIN DRIVEN LIVE AXLES!!

14.  No variable clutch or pulley or shift-able gear other than factory standard may be fitted. (No centrifugal clutch or torque converter assemblies)

  1. Engines may not be modified internally. (I.e. Crank, rod, piston, cam, valve train, flywheel)
  2. Rebuilding (i.e. boring is allowed. New piston must be factory supplied or equivalent)                                                                            
  3. Governor may be removed or modified.
  4. Exhaust may be modified, no muffler required.
  5. Carburetor must be stock.
  6. Fuel injection is allowed.
  7. Must be naturally aspirated.
  8. Suspension may not be widened, lengthened or lowered from factory.
  9. Axles must be in stock position relative to frame.
  10. Suspension and axles may be strengthened or replaced with dimensionally equivalent.
  11. Tire castor and camber may be changed.
  12. Tires may be replaced but must remain turf track or equivalent lawn and garden tire.
  13. Tire sizes may be changed.
  14. Rims may be replaced with after market rims.
  15. Fuel additives are allowed.
