UNITED DEMOLITION DERBIES 2012 RULES

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS -- PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY ENTRY OF DRIVERS, PIT CREW MEMBERS, OR SALES OF PIT PASSES TO INDIVIDUALS WHO WE FEEL WILL BE DISORDERLY, HAS HAD A BAD PAST RECORD WITH US OR MAY BE IN THE BEST INTEREST OF SAFETY REASONS THAT THE INDIVIDUAL SHOULD NOT BE IN THE ARENA OR PIT AREA. 

 

1. Each and every driver is required to fill out an entry blank.

2. Derby officials may accept or reject any entry, driver or pit crew member.

3. Those issued pit passes may be refused entry by derby officials should officials deem it necessary for safety or the smooth operation of the derby.

4. Pit passes are not to be issued to those 14 years of age or younger. Anyone 14 to 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and have an adult/guardian waiver signed.

5. Everyone in the pits must sign the insurance waiver.

6. Intoxicating beverages, illegal substances or the use of such are prohibited prior to or during the event. Any violator will be disqualified. This includes car, driver and crew.

7. The last moving car making contact with another live car in all events will be declared the winner.

8. THE Decision of the derby officials will be final!

 

DRIVER’S ENTRY

1.  Any driver 18 or younger must have a notarized minor's release signed by the parent or guardian.

2.  Only one entry per driver, per CLASS. Entries are not transferable.

3.  An entry must accompany every car.

4.  Any driver and/or crew member(s) disobeying the rules will cause their car to be disqualified.

5.  The driver and the car qualify for the feature. No driver or car changes.

 

Time limit

1.  A time limit will be announced by derby officials. If a driver does not hit another moving car within the time limit, they will be disqualified.

 

INSPECTION

1. Derby officials reserve the right to inspect any car at any time.

2. Inspection will close 20 minutes before the starting time. "LATE ARRIVALS ARE SUBJECT TO AN INSPECTION FEE OR REFUSAL".

 

FULL SIZE CAR REGULATIONS

1.  Any 1980 or newer, front engine, hard top automobile or station wagon is allowed in full size classes, no trucks, Jeeps, or carry-alls. Mini cars, mini vans, full size pickups, blind man, and bone stock (when classes are available) may be any year, American or foreign.

2.  Seat belts, approved helmet, long pants, and eye protection are required.

3.  All glass including windshield; doors, headlights, taillights, mirrors, etc. must be “removed” not broken and laying in the doors. The car must be swept clean of all dirt and loose pieces. All this work must be done before entering the pit area.

4.  Fuel to be gasoline only, no alcohol. Only tanks permitted are STEEL boat tanks or metal fuel cells "NO PLASTIC TANKS" and must be mounted to the floor and secured in the area of the back seat or over the rear end and  suitably covered. “GAS TANK PROTECTORS” (not frame protectors) may not be more than 26” wide and must be at least 4” from rear sheet metal. Tanks must fit within the 26" tank protector area and not be excessive in size. Rubber and steel lines can be run under floor-boards. Steel lines may run inside the car. Rubber lines inside the car must be run inside another hose. ALL FUEL LINES AND TANKS WILL BE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE INSPECTORS! Vehicles requiring electric fuel pumps must have an operational fuel pump kill switch. All original tanks must be removed.

5.  Bumpers MUST BE STOCK APPEARING from the front. You may add any material to the INSIDE of the bumper; you may fold and or weld any seam in the bumper and may use any year bumper in the full size class. No trailer hitches or other reinforcements are permitted. Cutting bumpers (and fenders) for wheel clearance and/or restriction of steering is permissible. "Stock" bumper shocks may be pushed back into frame and re-bolted or welded to frame. You may cut Ford/Lincoln/Mercury front frame rails short then re-insert bumper shocks. Bumpers may be welded to bumper shocks and bumper shocks may be welded (no added steel) to frame and may be chained or bolted (chain or bolt may be welded to frame ahead of or under core support); chain may go around bumper or be bolted to bumper. Bumpers may not be flipped over. Car bumpers only, max. 22” and min. 15” from bottom of bumper to the ground. No chaining up or down any suspension or welding to any support.

6.  All doors must be wired, or chained, or a maximum of "three" 3”x 4” (or smaller) plates per vertical door seam may be welded to secure all doors. Driver’s door may be welded solid with up to 3” strap and must also be reinforced with a suitable strong bar. Driver’s door must be painted white and numbers should be painted on both doors with a contrasting color for ease of scoring.

7.  A FOUR POINT cage may be installed consisting of one 3" max dash bar, one 3” max bar behind the seat, and one door bar per side. Dash bar MUST BE STRAIGHT with NO KICKERS and must have 6” clearance from bar to distributor protector. Door bars may only be mounted to body at the dash area or to dash bar and to the door post, no kickers on cage anywhere. One 6 x 12” mounting plate per side may be attached to the door post and or door. Seat bar may extend a maximum or 12” behind front door post and be no more than 15” above lower inside door seam. An optional seat bar without a four-point cage may be installed conforming to above “seat bar” specifications. No cage bar in the center of car running front to back. No roll bars.

8.  Hoods may be held down with up to six double strands of maximum #9 wires, sheet metal to sheet metal only, no welding washers to hood or fenders. Hood must be open for inspection. Hoods must cover fan blades and transmission coolers. Hood safety latch must be removed. Hood hinge bolts may be up to 3/8”. There must be a minimum 12” hole in hood above carburetor. Trunk lid must be attached to factory hinges at factory location. Front half of trunk lid "SIDES" must stay above drip edge and drip edge must remain in original location, back half may be folded down but not folded in half (doubled over). You may push center of trunk lid down slightly but not to the extent so it is no longer above side drip edges. Trunk lid (or tailgate) may be wired maximum 5 places double strand or welded maximum 5 places 3”x 4” flat steel or max. ½" rod, sheet metal to sheet metal only. If no tailgate or trunk lid is used you may not use any wire or weld! There MUST be clear view inside trunk area! You may add a horizontal bar in rear window from top of window opening to front edge of trunk lid. Window bar will count as one of the five trunk fasteners and may weld to one of the 3"x4" plates or rod. You may NOT      fold rear quarter panels over or smash down, they must stand up in stock position. NO TUCKING OR WEDGING.

9.  All chrome and decorative ornaments must be removed from the outside of the car. Protruding fenders or sheet metal must be cut off or bent over.

10. You must stay in your car. Do not leave your car unless you are told to do so by a derby official or the red flag (or checkered flag) has been displayed and all cars have stopped. Leaving your car OR STANDING UP means disqualification. If an emergency arises during an event and cars must be moved for safety, running cars will be returned to original position for the restart.

11. The battery and wiring, may be moved rearward of the firewall. One battery only, maximum size group 31 must be fastened down through the floorboard and suitably covered.

12. Radiator must remain in original location and filled only with water. "No radiator protectors".

13. Cars must have brakes before the beginning of the heat.

14. Any vehicle visibly leaking fuel will be disqualified.

15. Any tire any size is permitted, may be doubled, no studs, screws, or wheel weights. Maximum five lug wheels and axles. Valve stem protectors are allowed.

16. Stacks are permitted but must point up or down, NOT FORWARD OR SIDEWAYS. Air cleaner is mandatory.

17. Transmission coolers must be in front of firewall. No engine oil coolers.

18. Bar or wire in windshield area is MANDATORY up and down, SHEET METAL TO SHEET METAL ONLY.

19. Suspension jack screws (twisty jacks) or other material may be used but MUST HAVE TRAVEL with effort of one inspector. Where applicable leaf springs must be equal to or less than factory stock. Rear shocks must be working "factory manufactured shocks”. No coil spring to leaf spring conversions.

20. Body bolts may be changed to maximum ½” bolts with 3" washers round or square(max 9 sq inches), and may not extend to bottom of frame, minimum ½” spacer (material of your choice) between body and frame. Core support spacers minimum ½ and maximum of 3” x 3”square x 3” tall and may not be welded to frame or core support. Core support bolts may not extend through top of core support or be excessive in length. A maximum of 4 double strands of up to #9 wire may run from core support to front bumper. You may cut lower sides of core support beside radiator, raise bottom then overlap and re-weld to raise radiator. No other welds or added bolts to core support or other sheet metal.

21. No frame swaps, no welding to frame except for engine mounts and bumpers. A maximum of two chain links (or one bolt) may be welded, one chain (or bolt) per side, max weld 3” total per side, welded to frame for motor mounts. Chains must be in front of A-arms. No dropping (pitching, tilting) of any front or rear frame. Any rust repair will be no more than 1” overlap and will be AT THE OFFICIALS DISCRETION, CALL FIRST! When installing an old style rear-end under ‘98 and up models weld just enough for the 4 rear-end brackets. Brackets may not be welded in any way that strengthens the car.

22. No full skid plates. Oil pan and transmission plates may be used. Rear-end housing braces may be added but may not strengthen or be used to brace frame in any way.

23. No undercoating or painting inside car, under car, on frame, or any suspension parts. No material of any kind (i.e. paint, undercoat, dirt, torch smoke, etc.) inside frame.

24. Distributor protectors are allowed and will be at the discretion of the officials. None wider than the top of engine, none down the sides of engine, and no chains.

25. All entries must have roof sign (18" x 24" suggested size) and may not be attached to rear window bar or used to strengthen car.

26. You may alter steering components including tie rods.

 

Mini Car Rules

1.  Same rules as full size apply with exception of the following:

2.  105½ inch wheel-base maximum. No altering car to shorten wheel-base.  Wheel base to be determined by manufacturers listed wheel-base, not tape measure.

3.  Maximum of 6 cylinder motors.

4.  Any year allowed, American or foreign made.

5.  Any tires, no studs, screws or wheel weights, tires may be doubled.

6.  No tucking or wedging

 

Mini Vans

1.  Same rules as full size class apply with exception of the following:

Stock Class Rules

1.  Any year car allowed

2.  Maximum of 12 ply tires. NO doubles, v-treads, paddle tires, etc allowed.  Tubes are allowed. No valve stem protectors, studs, screws, or wheel weights.

3.  Welded rear end gears are allowed, rear end must be correct for car.

4.  No motor swaps: GM to GM, Ford to Ford, etc. Motor type to be correct for car and factory stock appearing.

5.  No gear higher than a 308

6   No Distributor protectors

7.  Bar behind front seat or cage, see full size rule #7

8.  Bumpers to be same manufacturer (GM on GM, Ford on Ford, etc.) and must be correct for body style of the car. Must be in stock location using stock brackets and shocks. Bumper shocks may be collapsed. No loaded bumpers or welding to any bumper component. On the front and back bumper you may add either 8 strands of up to #9 wire or two pcs. of chain from the bumper to the frame (not core support or any sheet metal). Wire or chain may not extend farther from bumper then the bolt on the back end of the bumper shock. Wire may go through or wrap around the bumper. If using chain you may wrap it around bumper or bolt chain to existing bumper bolt or add a bolt through bumper to attach chain. Maximum bumper height 18" from bottom of      ground to bumper. You may add 2 twisty jacks per side to coil springs to achieve correct bumper height.

9.   Driver's door may be welded and must have safety bar. All other doors must be wired or chained, no welds.

10. No altering or reinforcing steering components or drive train.

11. See “Car Regulations” for battery, gas tank, and hood requirements. Trunk to be wired with maximum of 6 double strands #9 or smaller wire.

12. You may notch or pre-bend rear frame. No pre-bending, tucking, or wedging of trunk area.

13. No stacks allowed.

14. Original shifter only.

15. Does not have to be factory key start.

 

Blind Man Rules

1.   Stock class rules apply unless otherwise noted.

2.   Bar in passenger’s door and drivers door mandatory.

3.   Must have full seat or bucket seat on passenger’s side.

 

Lawn Mowers:

 

1.   MOWER MUST BE A FACTORY AVAILABLE MOWER LAWN OR GARDEN TRACTOR TYPE MOWER (NO HOME MADE FRAMES).

2.   NO REAR ENGINE LAWN MOWERS.

3.   ENGINE MUST BE FACTORY LAWN MOWER ENGINE SUCH AS BRIGGS &  STRATTON, TECUMSEH, ONAN ETC.

4.   ALL FRAME MODIFICATION AND FRAME REINFORCING WILL BE ALLOWED.

5.   TRANSAXLES MUST BE FACTORY AVAILABLE MOWER TRANSAXLES & REAR-END. REINFORCING AND/OR WELDING OF SPIDER GEARS IS PERMITTED.

6.   ENGINE COMPARTMENT REINFORCING IS PERMITTED BUT MUST BE  CONTAINED INSIDE OF HOOD AND MUST MAINTAIN FACTORY BODY LINES

7.   ALL MOWERS MUST RUN A FACTORY HOOD AND FENDERS AND HAVE THE HOOD SCREWED, BOLTED, OR WELDED TO DASH PANEL AROUND DRIVERS AREA (IF HOOD IS FIBERGLASS YOU CAN MAKE ONE OUT OF SHEET METAL ONLY BUT MUST BE THE SAME SIZE AS THE FIBERGLASS ONE)

8.   MOWERS MUST HAVE GOOD BRAKES AND FORWARD AND REVERSE GEARS AT THE START OF THE HEAT.

9.   GAS TANK MUST BE SECURED AND HAVE A CAP ON IT.

10. LEG GUARDS ARE MANDATORY AND MUST BE BOLTED AND/OR WELDED FROM REAR FENDER TO FRONT OF FOOT REST OR FRAME, "MAY NOT EXTEND TO PROTECT FRONT TIRES".

11. A REAR BUMPER IS PERMITTED BUT IS NOT ALLOWED TO EXTEND MORE THEN 4 INCHES BEHIND AND MUST STAY IN BETWEEN THE TIRES, HAVE NO SPIKES, SHARP EDGES, OR PROTUSIONS.

12. REGEARING AND CHANGING OF PULLEYS TO INCREASE SPEED IS PERMITTED AND ENCOURAGED.

13. ANY AND ALL DRIVETRAIN MODIFICATIONS ARE PERMITTED BUT MUST STAY BELT DRIVEN.

14. MUST USE LAWN MOWER TYPE WHEELS, TRACTOR TREADS AND CUT TIRES WILL BE PERMITTED, NO TIRE CHAINS OR DUAL WHEELS.

15. MOWER DECKS MUST BE REMOVED.

16. ALL HEAD LIGHTS AND ANY OTHER GLASS AND PLASTICS MUST BE REMOVED.

17. BATTERIES MUST BE REMOVED FROM MOWER AND ONLY USED TO JUMP              START THE MOWER BEFORE THE HEAT BEGINS. NO DRIVER WILL BE PERMITTED TO RESTART ENGINE DURING THE HEAT.

18. NO FRONT BUMPERS. YOU CAN BUILD UP THE FRONT OF THE FRAME AND UNDER NEATH THE GRILL TO HIT WITH. THE FRONT OF THE MOWER MUST BE A SMOOTH FINISH FOR SAFTEY, NO SHARP OR PROTRUDING MATERIAL.

19. WHEN A MOWER IS TIPPED ON ITS SIDE OR ROLLED OVER THE DRIVER IS OUT, IF A DRIVER TOUCHES THE GROUND WITH A HAND OR A FOOT THE DRIVER IS OUT.

20. IF A MOWER IS TIPPED OR ROLLED OVER ALL DRIVERS MUST STOP AND WAIT UNTIL THAT DRIVER UP-AGAINST WINNING CARS ONLY HIS MOWER AND GETS OFF THE TRACK.

21. NUMBERS SHOULD BE ON EACH SIDE OF MOWER OR HELMENT (OR BOTH).

22. THERE WILL BE A MANDITORY MOWER DRIVER'S MEETING BEFORE THE HEAT.

23. MOWER INSPECTION WILL BE DONE BY THE DRIVERS, ALERT ANY OFFICIAL WITH CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS. REMEMBER TO LOOK FOR HIDDEN BATTERIES, CHAIN DRIVE OR SHAFT DRIVE SET-UPS, BELT DRIVE ONLY!

24. NO HITTING IN THE BACK OF MOWERS!

25. FRONT OF MOWERS MUST BE 6" OR MORE FROM GROUND.

 

WHEN BUILDING MOWERS SAFTEY IS 1ST FOR YOU AND THE MOWER YOU’RE HITTING.

 

 

PROTEST POLICY

A $50 protest fee must be submitted to a derby official at the time of the protest. The protest must state the car number and its offense. If the car being protested is found to be illegal, the protestor's money will be refunded. If the car in question is found to be legal, the owner of that car will receive the $50 protest money. Derby officials will inspect the protested car, along with the person filling the protest. Derby official’s decision will be final. Derby officials can protest any car at any time without a protest fee.
